Iggy Selling Insurance, Judas Priest Talks 2009, more

Iggy Pop is the spokesman in a new multi-million dollar advertising campaign by the U.K. on-line insurance company Swift Cover.

According to the press release, the ads are based around their new catchphrase "get a life" and will feature Pop "embracing his online life and how it provides efficiencies and cost savings."


Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest recently talked to Britain's Sunday Mercury, confirming the group's plans to play their latest album, Nostradamus, in its entirety at 2009 shows. "Our ambition is to perform Nostradamus from start to finish when everyone's got used to it and they all know it."

As far as their next project, "We might do a live album. We've recorded quite a few shows so we have to get together and listen to those and a think about that, but with us you never know what's around the corner."

In the rumor mill, a "source" close to Michael Jackson says that he would like to make amends with Paul McCartney by willing what he owns of the Beatle's catalog back to the former Beatle.

The music of Neil Sedaka will be the basis of the next musical to try to duplicate the success of Mamma Mia. Breaking Up is Hard to Do is "an engaging tale of love and laughter" built around Sedaka's music. The show has its west coast premier on January 9 at the Kavli Theater in Thousand Oaks, California.

Tom Jones seems to have a new buddy in British singer Robbie Williams. The two now live near each other and reports have Jones giving Williams peptalks about surviving the music business and the duo recording in Robbie' home studio.

Dolly Parton's new musical version of 9 to 5 is scheduled to begin previews at Broadway's Marquis theater on April 7. Megan Hilly, Allison Janey (West Wing) and Stephanie J. Block star.

Gary Glitter is at it again. Now, he claims that he has to travel overseas for a hip operation. Glitter is currently under a six-month order not to leave England, a country where sex-offender monitoring and control is among the stiffest in the world.

Glitter is planning on using the Human Rights Act to be allowed to leave; however, British officials are afraid that, once out of the country, the singer will be able to use lax Euro-borders to disappear.

Legendary steel-guitar player Walter Haynes passed away Thursday in Tyler, Texas at the age of 80. His musicianship could be heard on the records of Jimmy Dickens, Del Reeves and the Everly Brothers among others.

Beyond steel guitar, Haynes also produced on such hits as Jeanne Pruett's Satin Sheets and Cal Smith's Country Bumpkin and was co-writer of the 1965 number one country song Girl on the Billboard by Del Reeves.
