Chart Watch - January 2, 2009
Our weekly recap of veteran artists on the current music charts. Chart highlights:
- For the third week, there's not much change on the charts as we are in the post-Christmas lull with no new releases of note.
- As the Christmas music slowly wanes from the charts, a number of albums either make large upward jumps or return. Metallica's Death Magnetic jumps 35 to 20 on the album chart while albums by Michael Jackson and Bob Marley leap back onto the Pop Catalog chart. An even bigger surprise was the return of Janet Jackson's almost year-old Discipline to the top fifty R&B albums.
- On the Jazz Album chart, Tony Bennett holds down three of the top fifteen places, including his Christmas album at number one.
