Chart Watch - September 5, 2008

Our weekly recap of veteran artists on the current music charts. Chart highlights:

  • ABBA continues to dominate the album charts in reference to veteran artists in the U.S., Canada and Australia.
  • They have finally been unseated in the U.K. by Michael Jackson's King of Pop collection which premiers at number five. The tracks on the album were selected by fan vote, as they were in a number of other countries around the world.
  • B.B. King's album One Kind Favor premiers at number 37. That's the highest debut of any of his 33 charting solo albums and the highest he's been on the charts as a solo act since Live in Cook County Jail in 1971.
  • Little Feat premiers at number 81 with their album of collaborations, Come Join the Band. That's the highest they've been on the album charts since Representing the Mambo reached 45 in 1990.
  • Motorhead start at number 82 with Motorizer. That's the highest they have ever been on the American charts with their previous biggest being 1991's 1916 which reached 142.
  • AC/DC's new single, Rock 'N Roll Train, starts off at number 15 on the mainstream rock tracks and number 49 in Canada.
  • Glen Campbell's new album, Meet Glen Campbell, premiers at number 54 on the British Album chart. His last big album in the U.K. was 20 Golden Greats which hit number one in 1976.
  • Moving from 28 to 23 on the Dance Club Play chart is Espana Cani by Charo. Yes, that's the same Charo ("Coochie Coochie") that graced the stage on the talk shows back in the 70's and was married to Xavier Cougat. What most people don't know is that she is a world famous flaminco guitarist who has been recognized by a number of guitar magazines.
Previous week position noted in parenthesis.
