Afternoon Update - Weird Al Yankovic, Zombies, Vince Gill, Amy Grant
Weird Al Yankovic has told Billboard that he is really excited about the new digital distribution model in music as it allows for the much more timely release of topical material.
"Certainly there is the possibility of me being a lot more topical. Before I would have to wait until I was getting ready to put an album out and hope I'd be able to latch onto something that was topical and timely -- and even then it would be a couple months before I'd be able to get an album in stores.
"Now, with iTunes and portals like that, ostensibly I could come up with an idea, record it and get it out in the marketplace within a week. That's exciting."
Also from Billboard, Rod Argent has said that the Zombies will be playing two new songs on their upcoming U.S. tour, his own I Do Believe and Colin Blunstone's Any Other Way.
Per Argent, "What I want to do is play each piece of new material on stage before we record it this time to make sure they work and really break them in on stage as much as possible. I would also like to record the next album in a very organic way, without lots of overdubs -- just the guys really playing an arrangement that works well on stage and use that very much as the basis of the arrangement that we record."
Vince Gill, Amy Grant and their seven-year-old daughter Corrina will be the national spokesfamily for July's Family Golf Month.
Journey's Wal-Mart only album, Revelation, is hanging on strong in its second week on the album charts, falling only five to six on sales of 89,000. Emmylou Harris' All I Intend to Be premiers at number 22 with sales of 27,000.
Overall album sales were only down 3.1% over the same week last year.
On the singles side, a one-two finish for modern artists Coldplay and Katy Perry gives Capitol Records it's first top two since September 2, 1967 when the charts were topped by Bobbie Gentry's Ode to Billie Joe and the Beatles All You Need is Love.
