J.J. Cale Releasing Music From the Vaults
J.J. Cale has announced he will release the album Rewind: Unreleased Songs on October 2 from Time-Life. The album feature a number of unreleased recordings recorded between 1973 and 1983.
"Hearing them took me back to what I was doing then and where I was when I was doing it," CAle said. "It's like looking at old family photographs."
Among the tracks are eight Cale originals along with Eric Clapton's Golden Ring, Leon Russell's My Cricket, Waylon Jennings' Waymore Blues and Randy Newman's Rollin'.
Playing on the record are Richard Thompson (guitar), Glen D. Hardin (piano), Spooner Oldham (organ), Jim Keltner (drums) and others.
The tapes were in the care of longtime producer, Audie Ashworth. When Ashworth passed away in 2000, his wife Bonnie took the reins and began to move forward with a release. She notes, “We feel the time is right to share these recordings with J.J. Cale’s fans. We are very excited to have found a home for them with Time Life. They released the critically-acclaimed DVD To Tulsa And Back: On Tour With J.J. Cale last year, and we believe this is a great fit for this project as well.”
Cale explained that, although he has become semi-famous from songs like Cocaine and After Midnight, "I'm a guitarist and a songwriter and I got lucky. I'm not a showbiz kind of guy. I had the passion to do music as much as anybody. But I never wanted to be the patsy up front and I still don't want to be famous."
